OBJECTIVE
Addressing a real-world problem, design an
app using research and prototyping skills involved in human-centered design. Apply classic design skills in terms of layout, type and color in such a way as to quickly communicate and guide the user through the interactive app design.
APPROACH
Based on my own experience and research, I
found that existing travel apps are not perfect in integrated services. My approach is to design
an app that can help you make travel plans, and also manage complex itineraries, and travel
documents. TMATE is not only an app, but also your personal travel assistant.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Many people want to manage their travel plans through the
app. Existing travel apps are not perfect in integrated services.
SECONDARY RESEARCH
1. Everyone was disgruntled. Everyone had somewhere they needed to be. Everyone had something they would much rather be doing instead of being stuck in airport hell.

2. Managing complex itineraries, or multiple trips in a compressed timeframe is a challenge for even the most die-hard organizer.

3. Planning a trip can feel like both the most exciting and the most overwhelming part of travel.

PROPOSED SOLUTION
1. We are not only your flight pal, and also your friendly reminder.
2. As soon as you book a flight, hotel, car, or other reservation, simply import from your email inbox and your travel document.
3. Access every trip, no matter where you are today or where you’re going tomorrow.
4. Flight alerts begin three days before a flight's departure. Refund and seat alerts are available anytime after you include a valid flight in your itinerary.
5. We will instantly create a schedule showing you where to be and when. While on your trip, we'll help you find your way around.
6. Plan your journey, find amazing places, and take fascinating activities. Discover events that match your passions, or create your own plan.
TARGET USERS
Passengers, travellers, businessmen,
and frequent flyers. Anybody who needs an app to :
1. Record their flights/destinations
2. Notify the change or
cancellation of flights.
3. Plan your trip and find
activities near you.

INTERVIEW SUMMARY
STUDENT
23
MORGAN B
–I always go travelling during vacations with my boyfriend.
–I love writing journals. And I always review other travellers blogs and journals before my trip.
–I think if there is a travel app provide trip plans and destination activities that would be super helpful.
PRODUCT MANAGER
34
ANTHONY T
–I have 1-2 foreign trips a year with my family.
–I prefer booking directly from airline company instead of the travel agent.
–For frequent flyers, discount travel apps are not very friendly.
–I have used TripIt to manage the itinerary, it works for sure. But it does not provide some destination guides. Activities are important during travel.
UI DESIGNER

CHRIS S
–As a user interface designer, I
have to say most of the travel app's interface design are untidy and complex.
–I personally use booking.com to book flights and hotels because it is cheap.
–I use apple wallet to manage and collect most of the itinerary. but it does not provide any flight change reminder.
PHOTOGRAPHER

YEEWAI Y
–Because of work, I need to travel all over the world to explore the beauty of the world. I usually use different travel apps to make my travel plan.
–Different travel apps have different feature. But it is actually a very inconvenience experience during making a travel plan.
–Integrated travel app is more appealing.

TRAVEL APP SHE USES

FREELANCER/STUDENT
25
SAN FRANCISCO
ALI W
–Ali is an optimistic girl who lives in San Francisco. After graduating from college, she studies photography to get a master's degree and she is a freelancer too.
–She has more than two trips a year to enrich her life, she is still a blogger of travel blogs.
–She uses a variety of travel apps to book transportations and accommodations. It's hard to say which app is the most commonly used because the different app has different functions.
–She is used to making spreadsheets to plan her journeys. Email is very confusing and it is difficult to find itineraries. Apple Wallet and Calendar are fine to use, but not for any kind of activities or tickets.

FUNCTIONAL
An app provides multi-tasks and functions which include collecting and access itineraries, flight changing reminders and notifications, destination activities and event.

USER TESTING 1
User 1 (M, 29)
The app is elegantly designed, It is easy to check different categories of activities with the filter. It is really cool how you can have your flight information updated in real-time. Flight notification is necessary for me as a business traveler. For the navigation bar, I think it would be better adding text to explain the icons. (Version 2)
User 2 (M, 34)
Having a single place to have all travel info seems like a dream. Rather than show up with a folder of different printed confirmations, it’s all laid out in one place. I think this app is a brilliant travel assistant. But I think the app would allow flight status researches from within the app. No need to have the ticket is would be very helpful. Maybe I can use the app to track the flight status and pick up my friends from the airport(Version 1).
User 3 (F, 27)
The app is easy to navigate and the information is in an easy to decipher format. And any trips will show up on the app and would be organized by time and date if we connected by email. That is a fascinating thing to organize the trip much easier. I think it needs a purchase function for some event we need to pay or purchase a ticket. (Version 1)
User 4 (F, 25)
The most attractive function for me is to record all my travel stats when I connect my email and travel document. I can see how many miles I travelled until now, how fascinating it is! I think it is really hard to show the travel records through the map version. Because it would be too small and hard to zoom in. (Version 2)
TOP INSIGHTS
1. Reconsider the map version of past travel records.
2. Reconsider the section "settings" Maybe use "Account" instead.
3. Cards act as an entry point for the user, displaying different kinds of content side by side which the user can then click on. Consider using Cards instead of list version.
4. Consider adding forms to help users input sets of related information into the system and submit them. (Payment for events tickets)
5. Icons are images used to communicate a variety of things to users. Consider more representative icons and text combination for navigation.

WIREFRAME
USER TESTING 2
User 1 (M, 29)
The overall use of this app is very smooth. Various functions can effectively help users find and organize travel information. I think for UI design, error prevention is very important. For example, when you enter an incorrect format email, you need to have a reminder function. In addition to this, I think wireframe is completely effective.
User 2 (M, 31)
I think the integrity of the wireframe is very good, both the handling of navigation and the unity of all visual elements (buttons, images, text) are very reasonable. I think it is necessary to have a help function in the settings to help users solve problems or contact us.
User 3 (F, 25)
I can see from the wireframe that all the buttons and text are clear and easy to understand. Returning to the previous page or returning to the home page is very convenient and effective. I am looking forward to the simple interface design, even different from the most image-based travel app in the market, using the style of illustration or color.
HEURISTIC EVALUATION
HAS:
1. Match between system and the real world
The buttons and text used everyday language.
Existing UX of payment method shows requested payment details that are matched with a real credit card. The convention of having a familiar payment method creates ease of use through familiarity.
2. User control and freedom
Have buttons to exit, return or cancel current progress
3. Consistency and standards
All buttons and typefaces keep the same style and color
4. Aesthetic and minimalist design
I use simple and modern typefaces, I will use a clean white and grey background color to make the whole design user-friendly and aesthetic.
5. Visibility of system status
Has a progress bar on top to indicate the current phrase and progress.
Consistent placement of global navigation and local navigation allows the user to be familiarized with the app's navigation.
LACKS:
1. Error prevention
2. Recognition rather than recall
3. Help and Documentation
